REALTIME DEPOSITIONS - FAQs

1.       Do I need special software for realtime?

a.       There are four pieces of software on the market that are used for realtime purposes.

  i.      Bridge – (freeware) – You are able to perform simple functions during the realtime deposition.  You can make quick marks, notes, search words, and issue code.  Each file is saved after the deposition.  You cannot run reports and you cannot set up cases.

ii.      Transcript Manager Pro – ($695.00 per license) – You are able to search text, make quick marks, issue code, and make notes during the deposition.  You can run reports.  You can set up a case so each deposition is listed under the named case.

iii.      LiveNote – (Monthly subscription or $70.00 token) – This is the most comprehensive of all of the realtime software.  You are able to make notes, search words, and issue code.  You can run reports.  This software also includes a word wheel.

iv.      Summation – If you are using Summation Blaze as your litigation support software, Summation includes realtime software.

v.      CaseViewNet – (freeware) – You are able to perform simple functions during the realtime deposition.  You can make quick marks, notes, search words, and issue code.  Each file is saved after the deposition.  You cannot run reports and you cannot set up cases.

2.       What else do I need besides the software and computer?

a.       Brown & Jones reporters use a wireless realtime connection to your computer.  Our reporters will bring everything that is needed for the wireless hookup.  If you plan on receiving realtime from another firm (either in-state or out-of-state), you will possibly need a serial port on your computer or a USB-to-serial adapter.  Brown & Jones keeps adapters on hand.

3.       Is there any extra cost for realtime?

a.       There is an extra cost for realtime.  Most court reporting firms charge an added per-page fee for you to receive the realtime feed.

4.      When the deposition is over, will I have the transcript on my computer?

a.       Yes.  Once the court reporter disconnects from your computer, the transcript is resident on your computer.  If any notes or quick marks, for instance, were made, those remain in the transcript.

5.       Why should I call Brown & Jones for my realtime depositions?

a.       Brown & Jones employs Certified Realtime Reporters.  You can be assured the quality of the reporter’s realtime is accurate, readable, and understandable.  We can provide training before the deposition occurs, where we actually test out realtime with your laptop, to make sure that everything works.   This has been a very positive service and one our clients have come to rely upon.  Brown & Jones offers free training on the realtime softwares listed above, with the exception of Summation.
